Gérard Legauffre, BEA (Bureau d’Enquêtes et d’Analyses pour la Sécurité de l’Aviation civile), Senior Investigator.
Gérard Legauffre is a former Air force Fighter Pilot. Graduate from the French Air Force Academy, he was commissioned at flight, squadron and wing level mainly in the Strategic Forces. In charge of flight safety within that Command, he joined the Air Force Standing Committee for Air Safety where he led various military accident investigations.
Retired Colonel with up to 5000 hours on combat aircraft (Mirage III, IV, 2000), he was appointed in 1998 as quality manager in the “Institut Français de la Sécurité Aérienne” (IFSA), private aviation safety management training organization.
In 2001, he joined the BEA, the French Authority in charge of aviation accidents investigations, as Safety Investigator. As far as today, he has led more than 300 accident or incident investigations in general aviation and public transportation domains. He was Investigator In Charge of Pau (Fokker 100) and Perpignan (A320) accidents.
He was Accredited Representative in more than 100 investigations led by foreign entities. The most noticeable were Lajès (A330), Charm el-Cheikh (Boeing737), Yaoundé (Airbus A340) accidents or incidents. He participated as group chairman with various investigations as well (Sotchi – Armavia, A320 – Brazil AF447 A330 – Comoros (Yemenia 626, A310).
He was part of several training sessions for Safety Investigation Agencies, either in French or English language, as in Taïwan, India, China and Serbia.
